As a member of the Strategic Investment Research Unit (SIRU) at Invest India I was responsible for providing insights and information to support the organisations efforts to promote and facilitate investment in the country. My work involved conducting market and industry research, analysing data and trends, and presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders. I was responsible for staying up-to-date on the latest developments in the investment landscape in India, and using this knowledge to inform the strategy and decision-making of Invest India and its clients via policy proposals, briefing documents and research reports.

In the midst of this, the need for innovative strategies and products to identify and mitigate the contagion is urgent. In India this responsibility is being shared not only by the government and large manufacturing companies but also by startups.

The OPEC+ dispute amid declining global crude prices

Over the weekend of 7 and 8 March 2020, Saudi Arabia began flooding the global market for oil by increasing their own production and reducing prices enough to bring them down by 25% the following Monday. The United Arab Emirates followed Saudi Arabia by announcing plans to boost oil output after the recent collapse of an agreement between members of a group known as the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+).

FASTags: India’s new highway toll payment system

In a bid to make India’s transport systems more efficient and adaptive to a growing population and subsequent car-to-person ratio, the National Highways Authority of India has recently implemented a system of FASTags- prepaid rechargeable tags for highway toll collection which allow for an automatic payment deduction from the tag placed on a car. Nitin Gadkari, the Road Transport and Highways Minister had announced that FASTags have become mandatory for all vehicles, private and commercial.

Understanding the data localisation debate in India

In 2016, Cambridge Analytica, the data-driven political consultancy, created a model that could effectively use the Facebook likes of its subjects and work backwards, filling in the rest of the columns in a spreadsheet to arrive at guesses about their personalities, political affiliations etc. These algorithms were then put at work for their clients, by profiling and deploying targeted content in over hundred election campaigns in 30 countries.
